GRAIN GROWING AREAS
Grain is grown in all Australian states, but primarily in a narrow crescent running through the mainland states. This area is known as the wheat belt.
Generally pigs are grown in close proximity to the grain growing areas and therefore have easy access to feed grain supplies. Often pigs are raised on farms which also grow their own grain. Pig diets are usually based around grains such as wheat, sorghum or barley. Other additives rich in protein and minerals including vegetable proteins such as grain legume and oilseed meals are also used along with added fats, vitamins, and minerals.
The easy access to locally grown, high quality, stock feeds including non-genetically modified barley and wheat presents significant additional taste and health benefits to consumers of Australian pork.
All of these environmental attributes give Australia a natural advantage in being able to produce safe, wholesome, healthy and tasty pork. |
